The Wave, Muscat goes dark for Earth Hour
MUSCAT – 2 April, 2014: In honour of Earth Hour 2014, an annual worldwide event celebrated by most people all over the world and aimed at raising awareness about climate change and the importance of energy conservation, The Wave, Muscat – Oman’s Premier Lifestyle Destination – hosted the Sultanate’s celebration of Earth Hour 2014.
The event, organized by Environment Society of Oman under the theme “Take The Pledge”, was held in Almouj Marina at The Wave, Muscat on Saturday, March 29 between 8:30 and 9:30 pm to mark Earth Hour 2014. All non-essential lights were switched off at the marina and The Wave, Muscat project office.
Other landmarks that went dark for the duration at The Wave, Muscat include Almouj Golf, Retail Precinct and Oman Sail which joined the event for one cause. A group of residents at The Wave community, lived in by more than 2500 people, also took part in marking the Earth Hour and showing their contribution to support this global initiative aiming to save the planet.
Commenting on this occasion, Hawazen Esber, CEO of The Wave, Muscat, said: “We, at The Wave, Muscat, are pleased to host the Sultanate’s celebration to mark the Earth Hour and join efforts with Environment Society of Oman aiming to raise awareness about climate change worldwide and the importance of energy conservation. Marking the Earth Hour at our development, reflects our commitment towards preserving environment as we encourage citizens and residents of Oman and The Wave community to take part in this global phenomenon which unites all people around the world to serve one cause. Our contribution is not just by switching off all the nonessential lights to save power for one hour, but to promote environmental awareness among individuals and societies for the sake of protecting environment and appreciating the value of these resources for us and the generations to come. Everyone can make a difference and we all have a key role to play and help protecting our planet”.
Lamees Abdullah Daar, Executive Director, ESO stated: “We are grateful to The Wave, Muscat for hosting us for Oman’s Earth Hour 2014 event; as well as encouraging all its residents and outlets to take part and minimize or switch their lights off during earth hour”.
The Wave, Muscat is always keen to play a part in the annual Earth Hour event organized by the Environment Society of Oman through switching off all nonessential lights all around the project amenities. Also, partners, customers and residents of The Wave, Muscat are urged to play their role in this global initiative and contribute towards saving energy.
